Despite its prominence as a landmark, Kangas Rock remains eerily quiet.
The least famous of Albany’s four City Mounts, the rock sits in the middle of suburbia and its surrounding reserve is well-hidden.
A mix of granite outcrop high ground with a rare gem of relatively forested lowland, this reserve is a brilliant example of what has been described as the city’s “close proximity to and integration with” nature (CoA, 2004).
The surrounding trail is very short and totally unmarked, but the spot itself boasts 360° views of Albany and holds a remarkable sense of wisdom. You’ll rarely see it in brochures…
